When I set out in my mobile studio in the morning there are whispers, ideas, concepts and philosophy coursing through my mind. Wonder from the stars I saw the night before and the current state of the moon moves me to feel, listen and see what is around me. Taking it all in I become altered into a state that perhaps we as people tend to close up from because we need to be attached to our cultural values to find meaning and gregarious connections with our community daily. However, it is this ability to take it all in that breaks down and exposes the compulsive nature of culture. Sitting on the side of the road people react to me with a question. "Is he homeless" "Why is he sitting there". Their look is founded in the fact that I am engaged and valuing something outside of the standard value system. I am taking time to watch the paint tones on the building change as time passes. Listening to the sound of the collective energy of the town being alive. Yet when I start to paint people change from questioning why to displaying a form of childlike wonder and acceptance of me. So moved by what is happening before their eyes, they smile, stop their families and even ask me questions and describe their view. Leaving smiling as they take with them something that has moved them within. Something immaterial, a glimpse of art that has affected the course of their lives. What a joy it is for me to live this way. To have a hand in the happiness of strangers. A super hero... rock star? Perhaps not. Yet to be an artist in the public view is a special and unique opportunity each day.
